The web exhibit Our Mothers’ Sons: Portrait Photography and Civil War Memory for Sterling Memorial Library is a project based on my thesis of the same name for the completion of the Yale undergraduate history major. My thesis was written with the guidance of my adviser Professor David W. Blight.

Archival research for Our Mothers’ Sons was conducted at Yale University’s Beinecke Library, the Huntington Library, Rice University, and using the University of Mississippi Libraries’ digital resources.

Our Mother’s Sons features secondary research from the works of Benedict Anderson, Roland Barthes, David W. Blight, Christopher Clark, Ronald Coddington, Drew Gilpin Faust, Ed Folsom, Martin Golding, David J. Hacker, Patricia Holland, James M. McPherson, Margaret Rose Olin, Alan Trachtenberg, Catherine Whalen, and Bob O. Zeller.
